Well that didn't go to plan...

Hey Guys,

Well the comp didn't exactly go to plan...

I got smashed on points in both my fights. I was slow, sloppy, and I rushed the opportunities I did get. So over all I'm not happy with my performance at all (I even had nightmares about triangle set ups last night lol).

Ok, so what am I going to do about it?

As they say in BJJ, "You win, or you learn". So what did I learn?

Firstly the good stuff.

  • While I felt good on the day, the division below is definitely for me. Time to cut a little weight. However if you never try, then you never know!
  • Eating on the morning was good and made me feel great. Therefore, close cuts are out.
  • Cardio felt OK.
Now the other bits,
  • I need a competition strategy. Simply going in and winging it is a recipe to get dominated by someone else's game plan.
  • I rush things and need to calm down. I try to be technical in the gym, but that went out the window yesterday.
  • Need more competition experience.
Nothing really ground breaking there and I imagine every competitor could tell you that they went through the same thing. Guess you never know till you touch the stove!

On a great note, every client that competed over the weekend won either a medal or their competition! Special mentions to Leon who won his first ever gold and Matt who won double gold at the UK Stick fighting Championship, all while dieting for the World Champs!

I love working with such hard working people!

Stay healthy,

Mike
