Product Review - Myprotein Impact Whey

Hey Guys,

This weeks product review is on MyProteins Impact Whey Protein.

As everyone knows, having a good amount of protein in a nutrition plan is a good idea (my clients normally range from 1-2g per pound of body weight).

However some people struggle to eat that amount of solid protein or have difficulty fitting the meals into such a busy schedule. This is where protein shakes come in.

Protein shakes are pretty much the first supplement everyone tries. Even after the initial disappointment of not turning into Arnie after the first shake, they stick with them. Now the world of protein shakes is a murky one with many different types that propose to do all sorts of weird and wonderful things.

Most of these are complete crap.

However having a good, nutritionally sound, well priced protein shake is pretty much a must for any athlete or gym goer. So what to get? What is best and what is crap? Well unfortunately the scope of such a guide is beyond this product review. Instead, here is a protein that I recommend to  quite a lot of UK clients as a good, all round protein.

ImpactWhey Protein by MyProtein.

Here is what the folks over at MyProtein had to say about it.

Our bestselling protein powder, Impact Whey Protein™ is produced using only premium grade whey protein concentrate, delivering a massive 82% protein content. If you’re looking for a premium quality whey protein powder which delivers exceptional value for money and incredible taste, look no further than Impact Whey Protein™ is a rich source of whey protein concentrate from vegetarian sweet cheese, sourced directly from the world’s leading whey protein manufacturers. Having the highest Biological Value (BV) of any known protein, whey protein concentrate contains high levels of both essential and non-essential Amino Acids.

The manufacturing process utilises a unique combination of membrane filtration technology and drying at low temperature and pressure. This ensures gentle separation and concentration of the protein and retains its natural function and high nutritional value to give a high quality whey protein concentrate.

Our Impact Whey Protein™ provides over 82g of protein per 100g (dry basis), is low in fat and lactose and rich in calcium. This protein is an excellent source of essential amino acids and contains one of the highest proportions of branched chain amino acids found in natural protein.

Traceability is a key part of our quality monitoring process and to aid this process we work directly with the world’s leading whey manufacturers to ensure we have complete knowledge and confidence in the production process of our whey protein.

The protein fractions are: 44% Beta lactoglobulin, 17% Alpha lactalbumin, 1.5% Bovine serum albumin, 8% Immunoglobulin G, 0.5% Lactoferrin, 26% Glycomacropeptide.

Sounds good! So what is the nutritional information like? Let's take a look,

Per 25g:
Energy: 98.3Kcal
Energy: 414.0kJ
Protein (dry basis): 20.5g
Protein (as-is): 19.6g
Fat: 1.7g
Carbohydrates: 1.5g
Calcium: 125.0mg
Cholesterol: 0.5mg

That's pretty much the same as 100g of chicken breast.

I honestly have nothing bad to say about this product. It mixes well, tastes great (my fav is choc smooth), is available in loads of flavours and is nutritionally sound. I normally prefer to use this in recipes when trialling other products but it's great as a stand alone item.

It also starts from as little as £12.79 per KG, which is an absolute bargainas some companies are charging £40 plus for a KG!

If you're looking for a good quality protein, you won't go far wrong with this!

Stay healthy,

Mike
