Diet Flexibility and getting it done!
Hey Guys,
How’s everything going?
I hope that your January is going amazingly and that you haven’t faltered from that goal you spent all last year thinking about and formulated on the first of this month?
I know that some of you won’t have. You will be out there killing it, feeling energised, and achieving what you set out to achieve!
However some of you will have found that it isn’t easy.
They're complications that arise.
Some days you feel like life is out to get you.
No matter what you do, things just seem to keep cropping up. Sucks right? Life is to hard, just take a few days off, your goals will still be there tomorrow...
Well in the immortal words of the great Apollo Creed “THERE IS NO TOMORROW!”
Well technically speaking there will be a tomorrow, it’s just whether you will be is another question. However to accomplish any kind of real, meaningful goal you need to be dedicated to your craft.
Whether this is losing fat, gaining muscle, entering your first competition, getting a new job, getting good grades in school or being a better father or husband, work needs to be done. I mean HARD work.
Nothing ever worth having came easy to anyone. Ever. You’ve simply got to put the time in.
There is simply no way around that. People need to realise that their goals will not be easy. People will not hand them to you.
About now is the time you will start to see posts from people saying, “don’t quit” and “no days off” etc. Now while this is true, you do need to be 100% dedicated to your goal, we live in the real world and we realise things may happen. Family members get sick, workloads increase, partners and friends and family want your time, and the dog eats your gym kit…
These are just some of the things that will threaten to derail any goal.
Now I will say that 90% of these can be dealt with by simply manning the fuck up and getting the god damn work done.
This means that you have to get up earlier, work harder, longer and later than everyone else. It means saying no to cake and booze when in social situations. It means telling your friends that you can’t hang out right now, you have work to do.
Everything has a price.
Yours may be higher than someone else’s.
Either you pay it or you don’t.
Can’t do it? Can’t have it. That isn’t me being harsh. That’s the universes law, not mine.
Now I also said that we live in the real world. Things can happen that do really derail any person, no matter how dedicated (those who say they don’t are either liars or arseholes or both). If you get a call telling you that your friend is sick in the hospital are you really going to tell them you have to go running right now?
So do you abandon everything?
Do you throw away all your hard work or do you find a way to do both?
The trick is being flexible.
Some things can give, be moved or abandoned depending on the situation so that you can still function as a human being BUT STILL move towards you goal.
People have a problem when things move outside of a given framework or schedule. When something unexpected happens they get stressed and anxious. This is completely normal human behaviour. However it doesn’t help you move towards that goal.
So what do you do?
Can’t make a training session? Get your arse out of bed the next day and make up the work. Been given a last minute assignment by the boss that needs doing right now? Make the sessions up on the weekend. Miss a planned meal. Find a healthy alternative and keep going (this can be easily done as there is now a supermarket on every corner).
I mean come on, even McDonalds do a chicken salad (no dressing for me please).
The difference between people who achieve their big goals and others who give up or get bogged down comes to their ability to stay focused and flexible when life throws things at them.
We have all seen the person who gets caught out with no food prepared, has to grab a sandwich from somewhere then goes on a food bender for 3 days. Don’t be that guy. Be flexible but have some self control.
You must find ways to remain flexible enough that you can have a life but still remain dedicated to your goal. You must prioritise the things that are important to you!
You need to be flexible when it is required. However there is a massive difference between it being required and you just being weak and lazy.
This is not easy. Many people can’t do this. However if you find a way to do this, you will undoubtedly become successful.
