Overtraining

Hey Guys,

Today I want to talk briefly about over training from a nutritional standpoint.

The other day I got a message from one of my clients.

They told me that they were a bit concerned. theory had woken up feeling terrible and had to really drag themselves top the gym. When they were there they said that they felt absolutely terrible. They felt cold, tired and struggled to even hit their warm up weights. They said that they managed to struggle through a few exercises but called it a day early. They told me that they didn't feel ill, but something was definitely up (they messaged me to see if they should have their full post workout meal).

Now there is a ton of red flags in here for me. Firstly this client works brutally hard and I have never known them missing a session or a meal!

To some this may look like they may be getting a cold or some sort of bug. Some would even advise them to soldier through it! As I know this client well, I knew that this was very out of the ordinary. I also know that they are going through a few stressful things in their personal life. There fore I deducted these were the first signs of being run down (not full over training which is very different).

So what did I do?

I told the client to eat all their meals as planned. I even through in an extra meal later on in the day. I also told the client to get a nap, cancel training that evening and also take an early night. I basically wanted rest and a tad more calories to help recovery.

What happened?

Well the client woke up feeling fresh and ready to go the next day! They wanted to jump straight back into full training! owed over night their body weight had dropped by 2 pounds (a big drop for them). So I added in another meal for that day and told them to keep resting. The day after they had returned to normal weight and were ready to get back to normal training!

Now I don't want you to read this and assume this applies to you when you feel a little tired. Being a bit tired (especially in camp) is normal and most of the time you have to man up and get the work done if you want to be a champion!

However what you do need to look out for are things out of the ordinary. Is your weight dropping a large amount? are you cold all the time? Has performance took a large dip?

To make sure that you have an optimal plan, you need to become an expert in what all these little signs mean. It is the ability to adjust based on results that will yield the greatest results over time.

Never stick to a plan that isn't working or is wrong for you, even if lots of other people get results on it!

Any questions just post them below or drop me a message!

Stay Healthy,

Mike
