Results of Weight Cut Experiment.

Hey Guys,

Well yesterday I finished the weight cut experiment.

I wanted to test a way of cutting weight for a same day weigh in without over dehydrating myself or doing anything stupid like sitting in a sauna.

I went from 71.1KG to 68.9KG in 4 days, then back up to 70.2KG in 30 mins. I felt great after I had fuelled up again and would have been very happy to compete.

You can find part 1 and 2 HERE and HERE.

The weight cut itself went great. My weight came down as expected and really came down when I cut the water off. I will admit that I felt not to good on the last day and became irritable and ratty (apologies to my girlfriend who had to put up with me in a strop).

So how did I refuel?

It basically went like this,

  • Wake up and check weight.
  • Start drinking 2 servings of Biotest Plazma in 1500ml water.
  • Eat 2 Biotest Finibars.
  • Wait 15 mins and eat another 2 Finibars.
  • Eat another Finibar just before stepping on the scale.
Now will this plan work for everyone?

Well probably not. I know what works for my body and many others wouldn't put the weight back on like I did. It worked early well but I would probably change a few things,
  1. Up the amount of water that I drank on the first 3 days to 8 litres as my body didn't flush that much on the last day.
  2. I trained BJJ on Friday and I would probably skip this. I would instead do 2 light runs. One on the morning and one at night.
  3. I would take a hot bath before going to bed on Friday night. One to help me sleep (didn't sleep very well) and to help me sweat out a little more water without over dehydrating myself.
  4. I would increase the amount opt walks I did to 5 to help deplete glycogen.
  5. I may consider dropping my last two meals on friday for 2 shakes of the same nutritional values. Just to help decrease food volume in my stomach.
So that's it really. the plan worked but was zero fun.

Would I ever do this with a client?

Nope. No way. Never.

Even if they came to me 1 week before competing and pleaded for me to do it, I would turn down the client. It's not the best way to prepare for a competition and the only person that you are tricking is yourself. Be a professional and take pride in your work. Come into every competition fully prepared and on weight.

That's the only way that you will give your very best performance.

Again, PLEASE don't be an idiot and do this.

Stay healthy,

Mike
